Marian Bantjes.

These two prints are beautiful. The laser cut really makes this design. The illustration and type is quite intricate which is why the laser cut is so intriguing. I felt this piece related to my ampersand piece, as I really liked how the piece of foil look after using it to foil the poster - it had a similar effect to it, the way the design has been removed from the page.

This looks like it was a fun brief, and It could have been tacky but she has pulled it off well. I think what makes this so successful is the typographic designs. The way the design must have been designed on screen first, from the size to the layout - so it is not just putting glitter onto an alright design to make it look good. It would work alone without the glitter and still be as strong. I have been thinking about doing typography as photography for a while, which is why i picked up on this brief. This piece was for a magazine layout - another context I have been wanting to work with for a while.
